The world of macro opens up a whole new dimension in your imagery. Do you go for abstract or recognizable compositions? Is your focus a study of colour and form or a highly detailed intimate look at the minutiae of the natural world? The possibilities of macro are endless. It’s not necessary to have dedicated macro gear to create these kinds of images (though of course it helps!). You also don’t need to travel far and wide to discover appealing subjects to photograph – flowers in the garden, insects in the fields around, man made objects in the house.

If you fancy getting in close, the Macro Photography one day workshop in The Hague on Sunday 9th March with guest instructor Dawn Black could be just the thing you need to focus your creative mind on the macro world. The skills learned in the workshop will stand you in great stead to photograph the natural world as it bursts into life this spring.

Part theory and part practical we’ll start with a discussion on how to approach macro photography, composition and subjects followed by a look at the creative possibilities your camera can give you with various techniques, the aim being for you to optimize the kit you already have. We’ll go into the studio to get some hands on practice with simple set ups using both natural and artificial lighting. At the end of the day you’ll come away with new skills and full of inspiration to get out there and capture some fabulous macro imagery.
