At PhotographySchool.NL we think any time is a good time to set a new photography goal but for many people, a new year is one of the most motivating times of all.
If you have been trying to think of informal ways to take your photography to the next level we have five ideas that are just for you.
Pick one, a few or all five but whatever you do, don’t forget to take photos!
Five Photography Goals for the New Year:
1. Study a Photographer – There is so much you can learn from other photographers. You can learn what you like; you can learn what you don’t like. You can find a new style or genre that you never considered before or you can just get some good old fashioned inspiration. Time spent researching a photographer is never time wasted – so go ahead, pick a photographer and learn all about him or her, their work and their style. It will be worth it; we promise.
2. Explore Somewhere New – There is a reason people with cameras like to visit new locations. There is something exciting about descending on a new town, city or park. Everything is new to you, meaning everything from small details to big buildings cries out to be photographed. Grab your camera and visit somewhere new.
3. Join a Challenge – If you need a little more inspiration join one of the many photography challenges floating around the internet. From 365 projects to weekly ones, you’ll mix with a new bunch of people, improve your photography and learn some new tips and tricks along the way.
4. Pick One Thing – Pick one thing to concentrate on and stick with it for a trip, a day, a week or even a month. Maybe you decide to only photograph red objects. Or you decide that you will photograph grass in all its varieities. Whatever you choose, set some parameters and then go for it. We bet you’ll start seeing red (or grass) everywhere.
5. Learn a New Technique – One of the great things about the internet is that there are bucket-loads of websites and blogs sharing great content. Explore these websites and find a photography technique that you have always wanted to know how to do. Then learn it. Whether it is light painting or HDR photography, find the information and try it. You’ll be glad you did.
What suggestions would you add to the list?
